When slavers kidnap the children of Twinn Rivers a young teenage woman sets out with her magic and a few friends to free them. At the same time, the city guard seeks to hunt her down for attempting to steal a chicken.
Along the way she befriends Thissraelle, an elven mage girl fleeing from her father, Antonerri a soldier turned heretic, and Karendle, a female half-dwarf who desperately wants to become a wizard at any cost.
Will Defrantis get to the children in time? Will Thissraelle flee the reach of her restrictive father? What price will Karendle pay to become a wizard and who will she betray to achieve her goals?
