Heidi Amsinck

Heidi Amsinck is a Danish-born thriller writer and journalist known for her crime novels set in Copenhagen. She became a novelist during the lockdown period. Her fiction has been translated into Danish, German and Czech.

Heidi Amsinck was born in Copenhagen and trained as a journalist. Growing up in Denmark, Heidi is interested in dark and twisted tales, particularly the works of Edgar Allan Poe and Roald Dahl's Tales of the Unexpected. She holds an MA in Creative Writing from Birkbeck, University of London.

At the age of twenty-four, she moved to London, where she worked for many years covering British news for the Danish press. She served as the London Correspondent for the broadsheet daily Jyllands-Posten.

She has written numerous short stories for BBC Radio 4. Among them are the three-story sets Danish Noir, Copenhagen Confidential, and Copenhagen Curios, produced by Sweet Talk Productions. They were compiled in her collection Last Train to Helsingør (2018).

My Name is Jensen (2021) marked Heidi's debut as a novelist. The book introduces Copenhagen reporter Sleuth Jensen and her group of helpers. Heidi was awarded the Danish Criminal Academy's Debut Award for this novel. Reflecting on her debut, she said, "Having become a novelist in lockdown, I was overjoyed to receive the Danish Criminal Academy's Debut Award for 'My Name is Jensen."

In July 2022, she published her second novel, The Girl in the Photo. The third book in the series, Back from the Dead, is set to be released in April 2024. Translated from English, the series is also available in Denmark and Germany.

Her notable works include My Name Is Jensen (2021), The Girl in the Photo (2022), and Back from the Dead (2024). In 2018, she was shortlisted for the Royal Society of Literature's V.S. Pritchett Memorial Prize for her contributions to literature. In 2023, she'll receive the Danish Criminal Academy's Debut Award.
