“Did you not hear me say no?” Her mom is almost yelling. Kara moves the phone away from her ear, then she puts it into her pocket. Her mom hung up on her.
“Was it okay with your mom?” Rose asks.
Kara shakes her head. The lump in her throat is growing. When she bikes home, she feels the tears running down her cheeks

She steps off the springboard without thinking, falls through the air, and hits the surface. The butterflies go crazy in her stomach. She feels so happy that she cannot stop cheering. She feels so cool.
“You did it!” her dad yells.
