Sinead Moriarty

Sinéad Moriarty is an Irish author best known for her romance and children's books. She has written around 20 books, including 17 novels for adults and 3 for children. Her works have been translated into 25 languages. Moriarty's latest book, Fixing Mum and Dad (2024), explores family challenges and the impact of change on children.

Born in Booterstown, Dublin, Moriarty is the youngest of three children. Her mother, Mary Moriarty, was also a writer who focused on historical Irish figures such as Swift, Yeats, and Joyce. Moriarty completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in French and Spanish at Trinity College, Dublin, before moving to Paris and later London, where she began her career in journalism. During her time in London, Penguin Books published her first novel and launched her literary career.

In addition to writing, she was a columnist for the Irish Independent for seven years and was appointed to the Arts Council of Ireland in 2018. She is also a book ambassador for Eason's Must Reads book club, underlining her influence in Irish literary circles.

In addition to her adult fiction, Moriarty's debut children's novel, The New Girl (2021), won the Post Irish Book Award for Teen and Young Adult Book of the Year.

Moriarty's latest children's book, Fixing Mum and Dad (2024), explores the impact of family separation on children. The protagonist, Quinn, struggles with her parents' arguments, her father's absence and the challenges of moving to a new town. Through friendships and football, Quinn finds a way to cope, but her greatest fear is that her family may never be the same.

Moriarty said: "Stories are how we connect. I feel privileged to be able to share mine with readers all over the world".

Sinéad Moriarty lives in Dublin with her husband and three children.
