Joanne Skerrett was born and brought up in Dominica in the eastern Caribbean. She moed with her family to the United States during the 1980s where she went to university. She has a BA in English, an MBA and a law degree. She has been a journalist and now works as a lawyer in Washington DC. Abraham's Treasure is her fifth novel and her first book for young people.
