Keep it short. Anything up to 60 seconds is good, anything over that should be re-edited into two separate videos. Understand that people are busy and often don’t have the time to immerse themselves in your content.

So if you need to include the address of your website or any other message, don’t put it in the end graphics, where no one will see it. You need to integrate it into your general message and display it earlier in the video.

As a general rule, don’t answer personal attacks or aggressive comments, but you might have someone from your team counter them calmly and factually so that when someone just scans through comments, they are not all or mostly negative. When someone from your staff does this, they don’t have to identify themselves as part of your team but not deny it either.
Delete and block anyone who is out of order or rude – get rid of them. If they are aggressive or threatening, contact law enforcement. As a rule, make screenshots of all comments you delete, so that if it should ever become an issue, you can look up why you blocked them. Don’t waste time battling the trolls on the internet, they feed on the attention.

Answer as many questions and comments as you can. Be very polite, but keep it short and to the point. Don’t let yourself be seduced into long arguments with just a few people. If you don’t have the time to address all questions, don’t worry, answer as many as you can to show that you are responsive. If you have anyone on your team who is good enough, have them take up some of the slack. They can identify themselves as someone working for your campaign and provide additional information and clarifications about your policy proposals, link back to your website, etc.

So in local elections you can actually pick the streets or the houses next to a public park, or school, or kindergarten or a street that needs renovation and send all the people in that specific area your campaign pledge to make the needed change happen. You can be very specific.

Ask for testimonials from well-known politicians, people from other walks of life – like people in the arts, businesspeople, academia, etc. And have some testimonials from ordinary people in your constituency.

When planning a website, above all ask the question – what does it have to do? Let me tell you the answer. It has to direct your supporters to join your list and give you their e-mail address and/or telephone number so that you can send e-mails and make calls later in the campaign and build the list of constituents that will become the most important asset of your political career.
