parents didn’t understand her, perhaps, and certainly they didn’t condone most of her choices, but they were here.

They were family. As tattered and beaten-up as the connection might feel, it had a strong core, something you could hang on to.

Even on bad days, even on the worst days, I believe this is what I’m meant to do and where I’m meant to be.

Words were creators of worlds; you had to be careful with them.
