Habit 1: Be Proactive, is the habit of resourcefulness and initiative. Mediocre network marketers tend to wait to be told what to do. They wait for their upline to take them by the hand and make things happen. When faced with a roadblock, they sigh and make excuses: well, this is the best we can do considering that we’ve already talked to everyone we know. Meanwhile, the proactive network marketer says, I will talk to as many people as I need to this week to find one new customer. There’s always a way to get it done. Who else can I talk to? Where could I find new contacts?

You can reach a respectful, compromising level of communication if you have medium trust and medium cooperation, but really, compromise is not success in network marketing. You want to achieve win/win.

To go for win-win, you not only have to be considerate, you have to be courageous. You not only have to be caring, you have to be confident. To do that, to achieve that balance between courage and consideration, is the essence of effective leadership.

working more in quadrant 2—that which is important, but not urgent.

Effective network marketing absolutely requires putting first things first. It’s deciding what the first things are, and then putting them first, day by day, moment by moment. Effective network marketing is discipline, carrying out your vision, doing what you commit to do.

To begin with the end in mind means to start with a clear understanding of your destination.

two circles, one a larger outer circle we call the circle of concern, and the second a smaller inner circle we call the circle of influence. The circle of influence basically means those things you can do something about. You can have influence upon them or control over them, such as your work, your health, your attitude. The circle of concern, the outer circle, represents things you can do nothing about, such as the economy, other people’s behavior, even the weather.
Where does the proactive person focus? On the inner circle. And what do you think happens to this inner circle? It gets larger and larger. And you’re more and more able to influence.

the essence of effective team management. Habit 4: Think Win-Win. Motivating the team is not a problem for them, because they know how to help everyone win—new distributors, the corporate office, even retail customers. Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood. They are superb listeners, caring deeply about the needs and concerns of their prospects and team members. Habit 6: Synergize. They seek rich and varied input from their upline and downline. They actively look for new and better ways to do things all of the time.
Finally, highly effective network marketing professionals practice Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw. They continuously improve themselves so they can have more, and better, influence on those around them.
