A British neurologist and a famed author, Sacks was born in London in 1933. He received his education at the Queen's College, Oxford and moved to New York, after completing his medical training at San Francisco. He was fascinated with the incredible workings of the brain and wrote a number of books about his patients’ strange neurological predicaments and conditions that were narrative and absorbing and explained the intricate mysteries of the mind. His books include The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat, Hallucinations and Musicophilia. Sacks’ writings have inspired many adaptations, which included the Oscar-nominated movie, “Awakenings”. Dr. Sacks was also a skilled pianist, who penned about the bond between music and the mind in his book Musicophilia
