Lyon is one of my favorite cities in France. It is often overlooked by tourists, but completely without reason. The city has a long and interesting history and the historic center is beautiful. There is such a nice contrast between the current city center, Presqu’île and the old heart of the city, Vieux Lyon. Presqu’île looks very French, almost Parisian. Here you see the beautiful white 19th century façades that are typical of French architecture. Then, when you cross the Saône river, you find yourself in the second biggest renaissance area after Venice. In Vieux Lyon, the colors of the city change. Gone is the white of Presqu’île. Here you see Italian colors; red, yellow and gold. You can clearly see the influence of Italy and its traders and bankers on this old part of the city.
My name is Paul. I am a tour guide and currently living in Lyon. I guide groups around here. I hope you enjoy this quick guide of the most important highlights in Lyon.
