Truly understanding who you are is a bit like falling in love, or learning about an amazing new culture when traveling. The world seems so interesting, you feel inspired and excited, and life is filled with juiciness and novelty and possibility.

We can only improve those things that we are honest and conscious enough to admit are flaws in the first place. Thus, self-knowledge improves our willpower and determination. It gives us control over our weak points instead of us being controlled by them.

When you know yourself, you act with clarity. Your choices are not made at random or because of pressure from the outside world. You do what you do because you choose it consciously, and because it fits in with who you are and what you want. You procrastinate less, you are more efficient, and you don’t waste time on projects that don’t matter to you.

Bit by bit, purchase by purchase, this person creates a life for themselves that is completely phony. They may one day look at it all (the wardrobe, the car, the gadgets, all of it) and feel completely alienated from it. Rather than feel at home in their lives, they look at their lives from afar, unable to identify with any of it. They are imposters in their own identity
