New York, 1940. Young, glamorous and inseparable, Vivian and Celia are chasing trouble from one end of the city to the other. But there is risk in all this play — that's what makes it so fun, and so dangerous. Sometimes, the world may feel like it's ending, but for Vivian and Celia, life is just beginning.

City of Girls
is about daring to break conventions and follow your desires: a celebration of glamour, resilience, growing up, and the joys of female friendship — and about the freedom that comes from finding a place you truly belong.

    👎Give This a Miss

Did not like it, but finished anyway... besides some interesting facts about New York history, did not find anything new for me... The story is slow and not gripping, except the part in the middle of the book about the show and the following scandal.

Quotes

  • Лика Меликсетянhas quoted5 years ago
I was not built only to labor, and then to sleep, and then to labor again the next day—with no pleasure or excitement. There had to be more to life than toil and travail.

We didn’t speak of it, because we didn’t need to speak of it. We both knew it.

But as she chose her words, I could sense that she was choosing them carefully, so as to not do unnecessary harm.
