Hope has not time for God. Why should she? When her mother was dying, God didn't answer Hope's prayers. Now, Hope immerses herself in science, where the world is concrete and definite, unwilling to entertain faith ever again. Hope is dismayed to find that Rick, the interesting new man in her life, considers faith an important part of his existence.
