The world ended not with a bang, but a hush. Auditory Death Syndrome (ADS), a neurological disorder triggered by certain sound frequencies, has silenced the world, transforming everyday sounds into agonizing torment. Cities stand as empty monuments to a vibrant past, while survivors huddle in soundproofed sanctuaries, where even a whisper can be a scream.
Within the padded walls of a deserted Seattle community center, twenty-eight-year-old Mira Brookes leads a small group of survivors.  Once a sign language instructor, she now teaches, cultivates silent gardens, and shares stories in the elegant dance of sign, creating pockets of normalcy in a world stripped of sound. But the sanctuary's quiet tranquility is shattered by whispers of the Echo Seekers, a clandestine group promising immunity to ADS.  Drawn by a yearning for the lost symphony of her past, Mira finds herself entangled in their secretive network.  For her, the silence is not a haven; it's a cage.
Her journey leads her to Elias Yue, a brilliant inventor operating in the subterranean hum of an abandoned research facility. His world vibrates with forbidden sounds, a stark contrast to the hushed serenity of Mira's community. Elias’s unwavering faith in science clashes with Mira's cautious pragmatism, their signed conversations a delicate dance between hope and skepticism. He unveils a neural implant, a technological promise to filter the harmful frequencies of ADS, a tantalizing whisper of a world with sound.
But Mira uncovers a darker side to the Echo Seekers, where human trials become a stark reality, blurring the lines between hope and desperation. Back in the sanctuary, Nathan, a fellow teacher and a source of quiet strength, watches Mira’s growing fascination with the Echo Seekers with concern. Torn between the familiar comfort of silence and the dangerous allure of a louder future, Mira is caught in a silent crossfire.
When a trial goes catastrophically wrong, Mira witnesses the devastating consequences of unchecked ambition, forcing her to confront the true cost of progress.  She must choose: retreat into the safety of silence or fight for a future filled with uncertainty, a future where sound might return.  Mira chooses a third path, a path of quiet rebellion. Recognizing that connection isn't about sound but shared humanity, she rallies her community to advocate for ethical research, bridging the chasm between the sanctuary and the Echo Seekers.
