Beneath a sky of shimmering, vitrified sand, the last vestiges of humanity cling to life in the luminous depths.  Khurima, a city woven from living coral, thrives in the heart of the Coral Basin, its fate inextricably linked to the vibrant ecosystem that sustains it.  But this delicate balance is shattered when young Queen Ilesa ascends the coral throne, inheriting a city fractured by unrest and a hidden family legacy that threatens to unravel everything.
The Surface-Dreamers, led by the charismatic Rhys, believe the reef holds the key to reclaiming the lost paradise above. Their reckless pursuit of uranium, nestled deep within the coral's skeletal structure, could spell doom for Khurima.  Caught between their seductive promises and the Reef-Speakers’ dire warnings, Ilesa must navigate the treacherous currents of leadership, grappling with the weight of her crown and the devastating truth of her family’s complicity in the coral’s modification.
In the midst of this chaos, Kaelen, an ostracized Reef-Speaker, emerges as an unlikely ally.  Shunned for his unorthodox interpretations of the coral's whispers, he alone understands the reef's growing pain, its desperate plea for survival. Together, Ilesa and Kaelen embark on a perilous journey through Khurima's labyrinthine waterways, uncovering ancient secrets and confronting the terrifying consequences of unchecked ambition.  They discover a hidden chamber where the original, unmodified coral pulses with life, holding the key to Khurima's salvation. But accessing this power requires a dangerous ritual, a symbiotic merging with the coral itself — a process that could shatter the human mind.
