The glass-cranked beacons of Marrowcove, towering marvels of brass and lens, once whispered to the tides in a language of light.  Now, their rhythmic pulse is a staccato warning, a desperate cry in a tongue lost to time. The sea, once a partner in a forgotten pact, has turned vengeful, its treacherous tides dragging ships to watery graves and isolating the cliffside town.
Oran Vecht, a linguist haunted by echoes of this forgotten language, returns to Marrowcove, the town of his troubled childhood.  He carries the weight of a past inextricably linked to the very lexicon that now threatens to consume his present. But the townsfolk fear the knowledge he holds, a knowledge once revered, now a potential curse.  Kaelis Draff, the lighthouse keeper and last custodian of a dying tradition, sees in Oran a flicker of hope, a chance to decipher the beacons’ increasingly frantic messages.  But can she trust an outsider with the secrets her family has guarded for generations?  Their uneasy alliance is joined by Elara Quine, a wizened cartographer whose obsession with the legends of the deep reveals a forgotten betrayal, a deeper grievance fueling the ocean's wrath.  Even Garin Bayes, a grizzled fisherman whose livelihood is threatened by the unpredictable tides, finds himself drawn into their desperate quest.
Within the pulsing light of the beacons, they uncover a narrative older than Marrowcove itself, a tale of a covenant between humanity and a slumbering entity beneath the waves.  The ocean has been awakened, and it feels betrayed. The beacons, once symbols of control, are now instruments of its wrath. Silence them, or face annihilation.  Marrowcove is trapped between the devil and the deep.
As Oran and Kaelis delve deeper, they unearth a darker truth: Oran's ancestors were not merely keepers of the beacons, but architects of the original pact. Kaelis's family, entrusted with maintaining the beacons, has always known of the entity’s presence, but the true nature of the pact remained hidden. Their intertwined heritages become the key to understanding the crisis, their fates bound by the pulsing light of Marrowcove's last fragile hope.
In a desperate gamble, they attempt to rewrite the lexicon, to establish a new dialogue, a trespass against ancient knowledge with terrifyingly uncertain consequences.  As a raging storm unleashes the entity's full fury, they transmit a message of apology, a plea for understanding, into the heart of the tempest. Will their gamble pay off, or will Marrowcove be swallowed by the waves?  The answer lies in the whispers of the deep.
