Basic Genome Analysis

Geneticist would now like to extend that analysis to the developement of detailed genetic and molecular maps of different species. Linkage analysis allows geneticists to determine which genes are on the same chromosome. These maps would describe the order of genes and molecular markers on each chromosome of that species. Collectively, the maps of all of the chromosomes would describe the genetic organization of that species. The molecular marker can then be used as a tool to begin efforts to clone the gene itself. The linkage relationship between two or three genes or markers can be determined by analysing the number of recombination events that occur in a specific mating of individuals polymorphic for the genes in question. In general, the term for this procedure is called meitotic recombination mapping. The same scientific principles apply when developing a detailed map of any chromosome. This book will serve as a text-cum reference book to the graduate and postgraduate students and research scientists working in the areas of life sciences, genomics, biotechnology and molecular biology as well as masters in computer applications who are interested in bioinformatics.
