York early, or go hang with people her own age, why would that be bad?”
I look at her, but I speak to Iain. “Get Larry to track Raven’s phone. Find her, and make sure she is safe.”
“I’ll get on it right now.” He moves toward the door.
Rachel peers at me cautiously.
“And Iain?” I finally look away from her and over at him. His brown eyes remain calm while he waits. “Please apologize to Eddie and Michael. I was taken by surprise. I thought something bad had happened to her. They still have their jobs.”
“I will let them know.” He leaves me with Rachel.
She licks her lips. “Do you have something you want to confess to me?”
“No,” I retort, needing to get the hell out of this room and away from her. I can’t believe she left. Yet, then again, I would have done the same thing if the roles were reversed.
“Jett. This is a good thing.” Rachel follows me into our room.
I stare out the window watching a minivan pull up. She wraps her arms around me, and I stay silent. Sam steps out of the van with his bag of magical things.
“Leave it alone, Rachel.” I step away.
“I saw you two,” she snaps.
“What did you say?”
“I saw you with her. I watched the way you kissed her, looked at her. You’re in love with her, and you don’t even know it.” My head is spinning. Maybe I’ve done some questionable things in my life, but is she actually telling me she watched me fuck Raven?
“You’re mistaken.” I need to get away from her.
“The great, mighty Jett Powers finally being brought down. How does it feel, my love?” She walks over to her purse and grabs her cigarettes.
“It meant nothing, Rachel, just sex.” I clear my voice and the doorbell rings. “That’s Sam.” I walk out of the room.
“Don’t worry, Jett. Eventually your pecker will work again.” She lights her cigarette as my nostrils flare in distaste.
“Oh, I’m sorry. I forgot you dislike women who smoke. But since Emily is the only one getting me off right now…” She inhales as I leave her ranting and walk down the stairs.
“Sam’s in your office, and all the footage from last night is cued up on your computer,” Iain says while he types on his phone.
“Where is she?” I stop before I enter my office.
“Her phone is off, but the last spotting was at LAX. Do you want me to hire someone?” He straightens.
“Yes, and track all her credit cards,” I demand, entering my office. I lower myself into my chair, barely speaking to Sam. He knows what to do. I hold out my arm.
“Cocktail, or just B12?”
“Both.” I lean my head back, trying not to see her, but as soon as I close my eyes, she’s there, her puffy lips forming a smile, almost taking my breath away.
