Amelia Hartliss has a history of being in the right place at the same time – she's lucky like that – but being in Salford University media building on a cold autumn day is the opposite: she's stumbled into the middle of a terrorist outrage and kidnapping attempt. Worse, the target is none other than the Prime Minister of Great Britain, her erstwhile boss, since he is the titular head of Security Services and she is an experienced operative. Right, she decides, let's make the best of it. After all, she is the only undercover and experienced anti-terrorist agent in the building, while everyone else – including Melia's manager, the horrible Richard Caulfield – are on the outside looking in. The only little difficulty confronting her is that the baddies aren't her usual sort of opposition, and she can't really understand why they would be doing what they are doing. What do they want, and what will they settle for? Can she do a deal and get the PM released? It's her only hope.
