A collection of some of my favourite and most riveting young adult novels.

Henrietta, the legendary Dragon Slayer of the Kingdom of Bleuve, can’t stomach the thought of one more kill. Yet, in order to save her dying mentor, she must go on one last quest. It's a great tale of a strong female character going on her own independent journey.

More teen than young adult, but this series full of strong female characters is definitely a good one for them young ones out there.

Guilty of a romance novel once in a while. The last book of this trilogy is full of love, hope and faith despite the fears of death. Love in the face of the possibility of death is always frightening but this one is one great story of overcoming it together.

Not a young adult novel per se, but the subject matter is so relevant. Carol is a gifted musician who needs nothing more than her piano and certainly doesn’t believe in the idea of a past life. But her injury ends her career and suddenly she thinks her life is over. The novel is interesting - with paranormal elements in it. And it begets the question for a lot of youths: what is your life defined by?

Exiled from her home, the enclosed city of Reverie, Aria knows her chances of surviving in the outer wasteland—known as The Death Shop—are slim. Then Aria meets an Outsider named Perry. He's wild—a savage—and her only hope of staying alive. A pretty interesting take on YA in the sci-fi genre. Definitely something different.

Chloe Saunders believes things are finally starting to go right in her life – a boy asks her about the dance, Chloe gets on the directors list for a short, she finally gets her period at age 15, dyes her hair red so she could actually look her age, and commits her first crime. Little did she know, her entire world was about to turn upside down. This good girl gone bad tale isn't like what you imagined.

Love this. Summer comes and goes and a group of girls find their friendship invariably changed forever... when they get transported back in time.

Strange things are happening in Maya's tiny Vancouver Island town. First, her friend Serena, the captain of the swim team, drowns mysteriously in the middle of a calm lake. Then, one year later, mountain lions are spotted rather frequently around Maya's home—and her reactions to them are somewhat . . . unexpected. Kelley Armstrong writes yet another amazing book.

This is one tongue-in-cheek novel of the modern millennial. Protagonist Sukie is obsessed with taking selfies. And when her mom gifts her a mirror which once belonged to her grandmother, something mysterious happens. Acclaimed novelist and screenwriter Delia Ephron crafts a powerful novel of truth, beauty, and the secrets about family and friends that lie beneath perfection.

Quirky, unique tale about a kingdom of cats. Not the usual thing to pick up, but you'll be glad you did.

Evie’s always thought of herself as a normal teenager, even though she works for the International Paranormal Containment Agency, her ex-boyfriend is a faerie, she’s falling for a shape-shifter, and she’s the only person who can see through paranormals’ glamours. Yes it's a strange sort of plot and setting, but it works.

Oof, there are times when you feel like you just wanna disappear - especially in school. But unlikely friendships forming is always worth rooting for. Like this book.

Yet another cat kingdom novel. The first book of a thrilling prequel arc in Erin Hunter's #1 nationally bestselling Warriors series.
